Nishimoto was born in Chikushino City, Fukuoka, Kyushu, Japan in 1921. He joined the Manchuria Film Association as a photography apprentice in 1941. Believing the cinematography skills used were a decade behind Japan's he worked to advance Hong Kong's cinematography. He worked on nearly 50 films in Hong Kong while he was there. Nishimoto brought an unprecedented style of photography to Hong Kong films and influenced many Hong Kong filmmakers for years to come.
